Your growth as a guide will mirror ROW’s growth as a company. First you will become competent at risk management. Then, as you build comfort with our systems, you’ll be able to focus more fully on guest service and interpretation—areas where ROW strives to set itself apart.
Beyond trips and training, our goal is to foster a workplace culture that is healthy, caring, fun, and supportive for guides, staff, managers, and guests alike. We’re proud of what we’ve built and excited about what’s ahead.
Please take your time reviewing these materials, and don’t hesitate to reach out with questions. We’re excited about the possibility of you joining the ROW team and look forward to a great season together.

Packing properly for a river trip is CRITICAL to your enjoyment while on the river. We recommend that you prepare yourself for three basic scenarios:
A cool day on the river.
A warm day on the river.
Time spent lounging in camp.
Take care of these, and you are free to let the river and the canyon work their magic.
Weather in the northwest is unpredictable. You must come prepared for the cold/wet weather and hot/sunny weather – sometimes even on the same day! The following information will help you be prepared for the expected as well as the unexpected events of your trip. You may not use all of the gear listed below, but we recommend bringing it all!
ROW requires that all guides provide a personal first aid kit on all ROW trips. This kit must be with the guide in their raft during the day and should be taken on any day hike or on any out of camp journey. The purpose of these kits is for minor first aid situations. In the event of a major first aid situation ROW carries a more complete first aid and trauma kit on all trips. In a major first aid scenario your personal first aid kit would act as a first contact kit, providing you with first aid basics and personal protection until the trip kits arrive if needed.
