David Thompson played an important, if unsung role, in the exploration of the West. Thompson traveled through what would become western Montana and northern Idaho in 1810. He produced maps of the region and established relationships with many of the regional tribes. He established several important trading posts, including Saleesh House near Thompson Falls (named after David) that helped usher in the fur trade to the region. The following resources will help you learn more about this important early explorer.
